About the founder
Robert (legal name Roberto R. Flores) is a 54-year-old Mexican-American entrepreneur in Phoenix, Arizona. He taught himself to build software and has designed and built JrOS himself, rebuilding it six or seven times across three computers as he learned.
His motivation comes from supporting his children, working through personal health challenges, and wanting people in jobs like construction work in Arizona's extreme heat to have a real way to earn money online instead. He is Jr's first user: he is using Jr himself to start earning, and to fund the hardware Jr needs to grow.
What exists today, and what doesn't yet
Working today
- A full desktop environment of about 60 built-in modules, running on one laptop.
- A local AI model with a spoken voice. Nothing a user types is sent to an outside AI company.
- Workbench: a guided five-step job workflow (choose job, proposal, solution, safety test, complete).
- 20 practice jobs across five skill areas: files, spreadsheets, images, PDFs and documents, and approved web tasks. Each one comes with sample data.
- Placement challenges that check real skills against objective pass/fail tests, not self-reported ones.
- A job scanner that pulls real remote-job listings from public job boards.
- An earnings log that sets aside money for taxes, plus a guide to getting paid through the user's own PayPal account.
- English and Spanish, with matching voices.
Not built yet
- Real paid client work is switched off on purpose. It stays off until hosting and provider checks are complete.
- The "JrOS Kits" hardware in our grant proposal does not exist yet. Grant funding is for building and testing them.
- Jr runs on a single laptop today, with no cloud servers.
- No outside users have been onboarded yet. The founder is the only user so far.
How money works
Jr never holds, moves, or receives a user's money. Clients pay users directly through the user's own accounts, such as their own PayPal. Jr only teaches users how to set this up and helps them keep records and set money aside for taxes. Jr never collects passwords for job sites. Instead, it opens each platform's official sign-up page and walks the user through it.
